Dr. Jibrin Gambo is a geospatial scientist, environmental researcher, educator, entrepreneur, and development practitioner with expertise spanning geospatial technology, environmental sustainability, climate resilience, poverty analysis, and natural-resource management. He is a lecturer at Binyaminu Usman Polytechnic, Hadejia, and the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of DunesGIS Tech Limited, where he applies geographic information systems (GIS), remote sensing, spatial analysis, and geospatial intelligence to development and environmental challenges. His professional and research experience includes geospatial poverty analysis, groundwater assessment, land degradation, flood-risk mapping, biodiversity conservation, drought and vegetation monitoring, and environmental change. His scholarly work has examined the relationship between environmental conditions and human wellbeing, including research on groundwater potential, land degradation and multidimensional poverty, and disaster risk in northern Nigeria. He has also contributed to business development and enterprise-support initiatives through programmes including LINKS: Catalysing Economic Growth for Northern Nigeria and Mafita under Adam Smith International.
At the community level, Dr. Gambo works to translate scientific knowledge and geospatial evidence into practical solutions that strengthen local resilience and environmental stewardship. He is the Founder of Baturiya Wetland Conservation Volunteers, through which he promotes community awareness and participation in the protection of the Baturiya Wetland and its biodiversity. His work reflects a systems-change approach that connects environmental conservation with livelihoods, climate resilience, community knowledge, and sustainable development. By combining spatial data, local realities, and community engagement, he seeks to strengthen the capacity of communities and institutions to understand environmental risks, make evidence-informed decisions, and protect natural resources that sustain vulnerable populations.
Dr. Gambo holds a PhD in Geospatial Engineering and a Master’s degree in Remote Sensing and Geographic Information Systems from Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), as well as a Bachelor’s degree in Geography from Bayero University, Kano, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Education from the National Open University of Nigeria. His academic and professional development is complemented by expertise in a broad range of geospatial and analytical technologies, including ArcGIS, QGIS, ERDAS Imagine, ENVI, Google Earth Engine, eCognition, TerrSet, and SPSS. He is also affiliated with professional bodies including the Nigerian Environmental Society, Geoinformation Society of Nigeria, International Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing, and African Association of Remote Sensing and Environment.
Dr. Gambo brings to Unik Impact Foundation a distinctive combination of scientific expertise, community engagement, environmental leadership, and practical development experience. His ability to transform complex geospatial data and environmental evidence into actionable insights strengthens the Foundation’s capacity to design, implement, and evaluate interventions grounded in evidence. He contributes particular value in environmental sustainability, climate resilience, research, spatial planning, monitoring and evaluation, and community-based conservation, while bringing an entrepreneurial and problem-solving mindset to the Foundation’s broader mission of creating sustainable and measurable social impact.
