The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) in Jigawa State received a report from its surveillance team of an unusually high cases of severe malaria and anaemia, especially among pregnant women and children, as well as complicated cases of enteric fever from Tukuda community, that are often seen at the Federal Medical Centre and the General Hospital in Birnin Kudu town.
Tukuda is a particularly hard to reach community in Birnin Kudu Local Government Area of Jigawa State with poor access roads, especially during the rainy season when some portions of the dirt road are washed off and the diseases, particularly malaria and anaemia, are at their peak.
In the spirit of partnership to serve, Unik Impact Foundation with the technical support of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Jigawa State branch, sponsored a medical outreach on the 19th of September, 2019, at Tukuda town, of Birnin Kudu Local Government Area,
Jigawa State .
About 1,250 people, mostly women and children, benefited from the program.
Common diseases treated and services offered included malaria, anaemia, upper respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, antenatal services, chronic infected wounds, skin infections, allergies, and cases of malnutrition, elevated blood pressure, eye infections, and rheumatism.
