In keeping with our stated vision to provide opportunities for health to vulnerable, poor, and underserved peoples and communities, including health systems strengthening and local community resilience, Unik Impact Foundation supported the Fatima Abubakar Community Dialysis Centre in Hadejia General Hospital with a grant of 1.2 Million Naira only (3,300.00 USD)in 2019. This is to help subsidise the cost of investigations, consumables, and haemodialysis for the indigent patients (who would otherwise not afford) coming to the centre.
The Community Dialysis Centre is a very creative model in community action to identify demand and support the indigent in matters of health. The Hadeja community and many others in Jigawa have an observed higher prevalence of chronic kidney diseases than the national average according to records from the Teaching Hospitals in Dutse and Kano.
