Unik Impact Foundation Sponsored a Medical Outreach in Unik Community

Consistent with our commitment and core objective to reduce inequality in both access and quality of health care services, most especially in vulnerable, undeserved, and hard-to-reach communities adapting to the effects of climate change (flood, poverty, extremes of temperature), the Unik Impact Foundation sponsored a medical outreach on the 26th of October, 2022, at Unik community, in Auyo Local Government Area of Jigawa State.

This followed a massive flood in September 2022, which ravaged the entire community and farmlands and also completely isolated many communities by washing out access roads from all directions. C o m m u n i t y b a s e d organisations reported the outbreaks of diseases to the foundation.

Our team of volunteers had to cross several streams of floodwaters and a few deep rivers using local canoes, ride motorcycles, and trekked to finally reach the community.
About 1,618 people, mostly women and children, benefited from the program, which included free consultation, diagnostics, treatments, and referrals.

Common diseases treated and services offered included malaria, diarrhoeal diseases, upper respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, enteric fever, sepsis, antenatal services, chronic infected wounds, skin infections, allergies, and cases of malnutrition, elevated blood pressure, and rheumatism.
