Unik Impact Foundation Provides Relief to Flood-Affected Communities in Auyo

In response to the devastating floods that affected communities in Auyo, Jigawa State, North West Nigeria, in September 2018, Unik Impact Foundation distributed relief materials to support affected households on October 27, 2018.

The floods, exacerbated by climate-related hazards, had led to the outbreak of waterborne diseases, malnutrition, and mental health issues among thousands of displaced persons. To address these health outcomes, the Foundation, in addition to a medical outreach program, also provided essential household and food items, including foodstuffs, mats, and blankets, to hundreds of beneficiaries in makeshift camps.

Climate-related disasters like floods can have severe health implications, including increased risk of waterborne diseases (e.g., cholera, typhoid), malnutrition and food insecurity, mental health issues (e.g., anxiety, PTSD), and injuries and fatalities.

Unik Impact Foundation’s intervention aimed to mitigate these risks and provide support.
