Unik Impact Foundation Reactivates Water Point at IDP Camp, Enhances Climate Adaptation

In response to the devastating floods in Jigawa State, Northwest Nigeria in September 2022 that led to a surge in internally displaced persons (IDPs) in camps across the State, Unik Impact Foundation reactivated a water point at the Bello Bayi School IDP camp in Hadejia metropolis, ensuring access to clean water for drinking and sanitation purposes.

Climate hazards like floods exacerbate Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) challenges in poor communities, contaminating water sources, destroying sanitation infrastructure, and increasing the risk of waterborne diseases like cholera, typhoid, and skin infections. In congested IDP camps, the absence of clean water and basic sanitation can have catastrophic consequences, including outbreaks of diseases and increased mortality.

This initiative will help mitigate the spread of diseases and support the health and wellbeing of IDPs, enabling them to rebuild their lives with dignity.
